Why stories are important for children in their early childhood

Every parent endeavours to do the best for their children in terms of health, education, support etc and want their kid to be the best at everything too. For a holistic development, children need physical activity as well as mental stimulation. Due to the advent of technology, physical health of kids has been adversely affected as they tend to stick to screens and play games online instead of going out in the open and running around in fresh air. The same technology has also influenced children’s reading habits. But it is extremely necessary that kids read stories or are read to for their intellectual development.

Stories make children aware of the world and help them obtain a better understanding of their cultural reality. An excellent story also imbibes thinking skills and makes them curious about their environment which is integral for their mental growth. Communication and imagination are key skills that storytelling encourages in children- they ask you about the characters and plot, take an interest in the details and also develop a sense of imagination which goes beyond tangible reality. So, the significance of reading or listening to stories in early childhood is multifold.
